This is a grade recovery class for students who have failed or received a “D” in a class. Students assigned to Peer Counseling will receive a grade for working in this class. The grade will be given for the level of participation in class. That is not to say a student is not expected to work only in class. There are only a few times when a student can only work in the class and that is the pretest and post-test. Students are expected to make progress at home in addition to working here in the lab if they have access. It is imperative for a student to let me know if he/she is having technology issues or with understanding the material.
I use a gradebook in the Compass platform. If a parent needs to know how a student is doing, they can ask their student to open their account and show them their progress in their Compass gradebook. Classes are assigned by the quarter. Most students are required to do a semester to recover a grade. Keep this in mind when looking at the gradebook. I recommend that students keep their grade average for their course work at 85% to ensure they will make above 70% when the post-test grade is averaged in. After a student completes a quarter they will be required to take and pass a post-test in order to get the grade change.
